Julie London

JulieJulie London (nee Peck; September 26 1926 - 18 October in 2000) was an American actress and singer her career spans more than 40 years. A torch singer renowned for her smooth, sultry contralto voice, London recorded over thirty albums of pop and jazz standards between 1955 until 1969. Her performance of "Cry me a river" the song she released on her debut album, was admitted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. London was nominated in 1974 for the Golden Globe Award as a actor for her performance in Emergency The Adventures of Dixie McCall. Born in Santa Rosa, California, to vaudevillian parents, London was discovered while working as an elevator operator in downtown Los Angeles, and she started her career as an actress. London's 35-year-long acting career began in 1944 with roles in movies. These included roles as the lead female role in a variety of westerns. London also starred alongside Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951), John Cassavetes and Robert Taylor in Saddle the Wind (1958), Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958), and Robert Mitchum with The Wonderful Country (1959). She signed a recording contract with Liberty Records in the mid-1950s. It was the beginning of her professional musical career. Her final studio album in 1969, but achieved continuing success playing the female lead role of nurse Dixie McCall in the television show Emergency! (1972-1979), where she was a co-star alongside Bobby Troup. The show was produced by her former husband Jack Webb.
